A: Hi Nick , what kinds of after-school activities does you daughter do?
B: She is learning English , dancing and piano . She also has a tutor to help her with school work.
A: Wow , that sounds like a lot.
B: Yeah . But I’d like her to get a head start. What about your kids ?
A: They do arts and crafts , soccer and softball .
B: No tutoring?
A: No . It’s not very common for young children in America .
B: Do they get homework ?
A: Yes , but not very much . Elementary schools focus more on sports and arts .
B: I see . I’d like for my daughter to do a team sport. But she might feel a little shy.
A: Oh , I’m sure she’ll get used to it.
Dialogue 2
A: So Katie , are your kids all set to go back to school ?
B: Not really , but my husband and I sure are!
A: I hear you . We just bought them all new school supplies yesterday.
B: We are doing our back to school shopping this weekend. Did you gays have a nice summer break ?
A: We did , thanks . I heard you took the whole family to Europe .
B: There were some really great deals on flights . We couldn’t say no.
A: Maybe when Billy is older we can travel a bit ,too. This year he went to summer camp for the first time .
B: Fun! This was the first year Alison didn’t go to summer camp . She took a few summer school courses to get ahead .
A: What grade is she going into?
B: She’s starting Grade 11, and her little brother is going to Grade 6.
A: Wow . They grow up in the blink of an eye.
B: They really do .
Dialogue 3
A: Hey Nick , I heard that you are going to university soon .
B: I am ! I heard the same thing about you .
A: Yeah , I am excited to be a freshman next year .I finally get to live on my own .
B: Me too! It’ll be great to meet new people and try new things . Where are you going to school .
A: I’m going to Columbia in New York, where are you going to be?
B: I’m going to be in California at Stanford. It’s pretty far from New York , but maybe I can visit you during the break if I have time .
A: That would be great . Do you know what you are majoring in yet?
B: I’m still undecided , but I think I want to study psychology . What about you ?
A: I’m going to major in business and minor in finance .
B: That’s amazing .
